Geeta Narlikar Elected to the NAS Academy!

Narlikar and Ingraham are two of the 59 women elected this year-nearly half of the 120 new members. In a press release, National Academy of Sciences President Marcia McNutt called that number "historic," saying that it “reflects the critical contributions that [women] are making in many fields of science, as well as a concerted effort by our Academy to recognize those contributions and the essential value of increasing diversity in our ranks."

Bold & Basic Grant Awarded to Reiter, Raleigh & Poskanzer

QBI held a competition to give away 1.1 million dollars for bold ideas and basic research in cancer and psychiatry. Four grants and four fellowships were awarded to the best collaborative ideas that merged both basic and clinical research. Jeremy Reiter and David Raleigh proposed a bold idea in cancer: How fats cause cancer: Lipids in the primary cilium activate oncogenic Hedgehog signaling.

The Protein Society, Stein & Moore Award Winner Recipient, David Agard

The Stein and Moore Award, named for Nobel laureates Dr. William Stein and Dr. Stanford Moore, venerates their contribution to understanding the connection between chemical structure and catalytic activity of the active center of the ribonuclease molecule. Established in 1986, the Stein and Moore Award is given to recognize eminent leaders in protein science who have made sustained high impact research contributions to the field.
